Would You Pay to Work?
Is the employment relationship morphing into an updated version of
indentured servitude (where the worker owes his boss money for the
privilege of working)? The article suggests that employers are redefining working so radically that the traditional employment relationship is breaking down-- giving way to a just-in-time servant who is beckoned on his mobile phone, and paid without benefits or long-term commitment. And employment taxes? The new-style employer has created a system that cuts corners with Social Security, Medicare, worker's compensation, unemployment insurance, and local taxes.
