Fake News = Real Hate

On January 3^rd, Breitbart published a fake news story, “Revealed: 1,000-Man Mob Attack Police, Set Germany’s Oldest Church Alight on New Year’s Eve.” The false lead-in stated, “At New Year’s Eve celebrations in Dortmund a mob of more than 1,000 men chanted ‘Allahu Akhbar’, launched fireworks at police, and set fire to a historic church.” For the fake news story, click on this link.

German politicians and police have denied and denounced this as fake news. Local police said that New Year’s Eve was “‘rather average to quiet,”’ far from the mayhem falsely reported in Breitbart. According to German news sources, Breitbart had combined and exaggerated unrelated incidents to produce this fake news story. For the true story, click on this story from The Guardian.
