I am rarely enthusiastic about social legislation proposed
by a Republican lawmaker. But this is different.
State Delegate Bob Marshall, (R-Prince William), has filed a
bill that would declare pornography a public health hazard in Virginia.
What’s intriguing about his bill is that it doesn’t propose new
criminal or civil penalties. Nor does it ban porn.
His bill only calls for the
need for education, research, and policy change to address the “public health
crisis” of pornography.
The bill says porn leads to social problems, such as
hypersexualization of teenagers and normalizes violence and abuse of women and
children.
