You don’t want to meet Ricky
Shultz, a resident of DeMotte, Indiana. He was arraigned today after investigators
found 48 guns and meth at his home.
Schultz is alleged in an
indictment to be part of a white supremacist prison gang called the Saxon Knights.
Investigators found the guns, almost
a quarter kilogram of methamphetamine, a bullet proof vest and digital scales
and packing material, according to a complaint.
Shultz was “identified as a
senior ranking member of the Saxon Knights organization,” a “prison-based gang”
that originated in Indiana and “espouses a white supremacist ideology,” a
complaint states.
Shultz “admitted to having
been a member but claimed to be retired at this point in time,” according to
the complaint.
The complaint further
states that the defendant “believed that it was his constitutional right to
carry the firearms, despite his status as a felon.”
Hunters and other gun enthusiasts talk
about the Second Amendment but don’t link that to political activity. That’s
because they use guns for leisure and personal protection.
Political activists talk about a First Amendment right to a free
press or right of assembly but they don’t link that to guns.
Hate groups do the
constitutional math: To them, the First Amendment and Second Amendment are
additive. It equates to a militia that is neither about hunting or political
activity. It’s about fomenting armed resistance, usually to federal authority-- and it’s also about hating blacks, Jews, and immigrants.
